Graduated from the Department of Information and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokyo in 1997, and completed his Ph.D. at the university's graduate school in 2002 (Doctor of Engineering). After serving as a researcher at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and a visiting researcher at Stanford University, he became an associate professor at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Engineering in 2007, and a professor in 2019. His areas of specialization are artificial intelligence, deep learning, and web mining. He has received the Best Paper Award (2002), the 20th Anniversary Achievement Award (2006), the Field Innovation Award (2011), and the Distinguished Service Award (2013) from the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence. He served as a director of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence and the Information Processing Society of Japan from 2020 to 2022. He has served as Chairman of the Japan Deep Learning Association (JDLA) since 2017, as an outside director of SoftBank Group since 2019, as an expert member of the Council of New Form of Capitalism Realization since 2021, and as Chair of the AI Strategy Council since 2023.

Earned a master's degree at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), researching materials exploration for quantum computers. While running the company, he is also a doctoral student at Tohoku University's Graduate School of Medicine, researching medical AI in the field of medical physics. His research was accepted and presented at AAPM, a top conference in medical physics. He is active in publishing as well, with credits including the book 'Git Introduction: 80 Practical Command-Line Exercises for Understanding and Mastering Git' (Shuwa System) and articles on large language models contributed to 'Nikkei Linux' (Nikkei BP).

After graduate school, Takeshi joined Toshiba, where he worked as a plant design engineer in the nuclear power business, engaged in the design of counter-terrorism facilities. He was involved in launching data warehouse construction and design digitalization research to promote CPS, all the way through to patent filing. Drawn to a more data-driven industry, he then moved to Western Digital in the U.S. as an Integration Engineer, handling data analysis and leading a task force team to accelerate defect analysis. Drawing on his knowledge of both hardware and software, he contributes to Elith's continued growth.

Transferred from Kobe City College of Technology into the Department of Information and Communication Engineering at the University of Tokyo. He went on to earn a master's degree at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, researching diffusion models. He has contributed articles on large language models and multimodal models to 'Nikkei Linux' (Nikkei BP). Trilingual in Japanese, English, and Chinese. He works on developing innovative technology by combining the hands-on, maker spirit he cultivated during his years at technical college with the cutting-edge knowledge he gained in graduate school.

Founded a company while still a student at Keio University, and after selling that business, went on to found further companies and launch projects one after another. Co-founded ABEJA in 2012. His past roles include Executive Director of the Japan Deep Learning Association (JDLA), Secretary-General of the National Institute of Technology Deep Learning Contest (DCON), Senior Advisor at IVS, and member of NEDO's 'Mobility Service Architecture Study Committee,' among others. In June 2025, he founded the AI Robot Association (a general incorporated association) and took on the role of Secretary-General. Through numerous community-building efforts spanning industry, academia, government, startups, and communities, he drives the real-world deployment of AI and advanced technology, as well as talent development.

Engaged in research and development of facial image analysis algorithms at an electronics manufacturer starting in 2002. Moved to Chubu University in 2014, serving as lecturer and then associate professor before becoming a professor in 2021. He was among the first to apply deep learning–based methods to a range of problems in computer vision, earning the Best Paper Award at the Symposium on Sensing via Image Information (2015) and the Nagao Award at the Meeting on Image Recognition and Understanding (MIRU) in 2019 and 2020, among other honors. He has also presented research at the top international conferences in computer vision, including CVPR, ICCV, and ECCV. He has additionally served as program chair at various domestic and international conferences, and is an expert member of the Japan Deep Learning Association.

VPoE at M3, Inc. Previously drove business applications of AI and machine learning at Sansan and LY Corporation. Recognized as one of a small number of Google Developer Experts (AI/ML) in Japan, based on achievements including speaking at top conferences and open-source development.

He worked at Ernst & Young ShinNihon LLC, conducting Financial Instruments and Exchange Act and Companies Act audits for listed companies. He is a member of the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He then joined seed-stage venture capital firm ANOBAKA, Inc. (formerly KVP Co., Ltd.), where he gained experience in deal sourcing, investment evaluation, fund accounting, and finance support. At ALTURA Inc., he served as Director and CFO, focusing on finance, accounting, and liaison with securities firms and audit firms. In December 2022, he founded EmptyCups Inc.

Earned a Ph.D. at Nagoya University's Graduate School of Medicine for technical development in radiation therapy planning. He went on to work in clinical practice and technical development for radiation therapy at the Southern Tohoku Proton Therapy Center, Stanford University, and UC Davis. He currently serves as a lecturer in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Tohoku University Hospital and as founder of AiRato Inc., a radiation therapy AI startup, leading the development and real-world deployment of radiation therapy AI in Japan. He has authored numerous books on radiation therapy AI both in Japan and abroad. At Elith, he contributes medical expertise, including in radiation therapy.
