Elith Inc. presented its sponsor award, the "Elith Award," at the Association for Natural Language Processing to Yuto Okuda and Yoshimasa Tsuruoka (The University of Tokyo) for their research "The Impact of Format Information in Fine-Tuning Training Data on LLM Safety." The research shows that LLM safety declines as the format of training data becomes more complex, and reveals a trade-off with task performance under format-separated training, demonstrating the importance of balancing safety and performance. Elith places the same emphasis on balancing safety and performance in its own fine-tuning of LLMs for clients, and selected this research for the sponsor award in recognition of its valuable findings.
