Professor Yutaka Matsuo, who has now been appointed as a technical advisor to Elith, specializes in artificial intelligence, deep learning, and web mining, and is engaged in research and development as a leading figure in Japan's AI field. He has also served since 2017 as chairman of the Japan Deep Learning Association (JDLA), which was established to improve Japan's industrial competitiveness centered on deep learning technology, working to promote the sound development of the AI industry.

■ Profile of Professor Yutaka Matsuo
Graduated from the Department of Information and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, in 1997. Completed his doctoral program at the same graduate school in 2002, earning a Ph.D. in Engineering. From the same year, he was a researcher at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). After serving as a visiting researcher at Stanford University from August 2005, he became an associate professor in 2007 at the University of Tokyo's Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology / Center for Knowledge Structuring / Department of Technology Management for Innovation, Graduate School of Engineering. From 2014, he served as co-director and specially appointed associate professor of the Global Consumer Intelligence endowed chair in the Department of Technology Management for Innovation, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo. From 2019, he has been a professor at the Department of Technology Management for Innovation / Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo. His areas of specialization are artificial intelligence, deep learning, and web mining. He has received awards from the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, including the Best Paper Award (2002), the 20th Anniversary Commemorative Project Award (2006), the Field Innovation Award (2011), and the Distinguished Service Award (2013). Within the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, he served as a student editorial committee member and then editorial committee member, becoming deputy editor-in-chief in 2010 and editor-in-chief and director from 2012. He served as chair of the ethics committee from 2014 to 2018. He has been chairman of the Japan Deep Learning Association since 2017, and an outside director of SoftBank Group since 2019. Since 2021, he has been a member of experts for the Council of New Form of Capitalism Realization, and since 2023 he has served as head of the Department of Technology Management for Innovation and chair of the AI Strategy Council.
